Netgear is popular brand of routers and other networking equipment. If you are one of their clients you will certainly find this post useful. Here we are going to present you a table with all the default passwords for Netgear routers and additional information like default IP addresses.
When do I use the default password of my Netgear router?
Have you ever thought about changing your wifi password to a stronger and safer one? Or maybe changing the wifi name to a simpler and shorter one? Well, in order to perform these changes you will need to login to your Netgear router.
The default password is necessary when you login, since the access to the router’s configuration page is done by providing the router’s login credentials.
On the configuration panel is also possible to change the router password. So, if you changed the password in the past, you should use the new one you set up before. But, if you ever changed or if you changed and don’t remember it anymore, you will need to fill in the default password for your Netgear device.
Netgear default IP and login credentials
When you login to a router, the basic steps are the following:
- Connect to the network using an ethernet cable or through wifi
- Open a browser and enter the default IP address of your Netgear router
- You will be requested to fill in the login credentials. Enter the default password and username (or the one you have set up before).
- The configuration panel will be shown on the screen.
Step 2 requires the Netgear default IP address. See below the two IPs used by Netgear and try them (the first two are the most common ones).
Ok, now you have the correct IP. The next step is to enter the login credentials. These are usually the default password and username.

Reset and use the default password?
When you decide to login to your router, it might happen that you forgot your password. If this happens to you it will be necessary to reset the router to its original factory settings. Resetting the router will bring all changes you performed back to its original factory state.
Ensure that you verified and took note about all the current settings before proceeding with the reset operation.
After you take the necessary notes, resetting the router is easy. Locate the reset button on the back part of the device and press it (you will need a needle or something similar to press the button). Do not release the button before 10 seconds or more has passed. And it’s done! After holding the reset button all the settings will be restored to the original default values.
Now you have everything you need and all the default information you need. Time to open your browser, login and perform some changes on your Netgear router settings!
